Art of Thangka

Kasarpani is one of the great numbers of emanations of Avalokiteshvara the Bodhisattva of Compassion . His left hand holds a lotus and makes the gesture of elucidation and his right hand rests on the lotus flower. He wears a finely rendered cloth around his waist (dhoti). The only one lotus rises up behind Avalokiteshvara's left shoulder symbolizing total enlightenment.

Above Kasarpani there are two images: Buddha Amitabha and Guru Padmasambhava. All together they belong to the Padma family, where the Buddha Amitabha is the head of the family (tib. rig dags).

Below is depicted Adzom Drugpa (1842-1934) — great Dzogchen master who lived in Eastern Tibet and consider a previous incarnation of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu.

Adzom Drugpa discovered great amount of hidden texts (tib. rter ma) and practices. One of them is Sang chod smoke purification right with intensive visualization of Kasarpani.

Incantation of Kasarpani has great virtue. Chanting the mantra, the follower can eliminate diseases, punishments and fear of unexpected death. He can lengthen his span of life and become rich. At his deathbed, he can be reborn as a human being or as one of the God.
