Thirty-five Confession Buddhas

All Buddhas are able to protect living beings from suffering and not good karma, but only thirty-five Buddhas have a special karmic connection with human beings through the prayers and dedication that they have given, even as Bodhisattvas. About effective, cleansing power of the names of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas know a lot, but it should not be understood in the sense that it is enough simply to hear or say this or that high name.

On behalf of, heard or spoken without sincere aspiration to enlightenment, to purification and repentance, for spiritual growth — not good or it will be negligible. If faith and spiritual aspiration much, good action can be arbitrarily small — and yet it will be effective. Through reciting the names of thirty-five Buddhas Tsongkhapa’s many students were able to see them. We know that the reason that we do not see the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas — pollution in our mind, not that they are not in front of us. Any living being — be it a tiny insect or celestial — is able to commit unwholesome action, but the only people able to completely clean it.
