Main Dzogchen Masters

The main Masters of Dzogchen — Guru Garab Dorje, Guru Padmasambhava and Chogyal Namkhai Norbu.

Garab Dorje — the teacher who transmitted tantras, lung and Upadeshas of Dzogchen in our historical epoch. His birth was foretold by the Buddha Shakyamuni. According to the research, Garab Dorje miraculously was born in the 2nd century BC in the country called Oddiyana, which was considered to be located to the north-west of India. From early childhood, Garab Dorje showed extraordinary abilities and knew by heart all the root tantras of Dzogchen. Throughout his life, he gave Dzogchen teachings to many students — both among people and among the dakinis

The great Guru Padmasambhava — the emanation of the Buddha Amitabha. He was born miraculously in a lotus flower in the country Oddiyana. After the invitation from the Tibetan king Trisong Deutsen (742-797), he came to Tibet to spread the teachings of Vajrayana linage. During the day he gave the teachings  on the gradual path to all practitioners, and at night, he would transmit the Dzogchen teaching, but only to selected students and the royal family. Guru Padmasambhava sent a few special students to get the entire lineage of the Dzogchen teachings in Oddiyana and Trusha (Tazig). Until now, this line exists and transmitted, both in Kama and Terma aspects.

Chogyal Namkhai Norbu (1938-2018) — Dzogchen teacher from Tibet, actively transmitted this teaching around the world for all his life. Professor in the University of Naples — one of the most prominent figures of Tibetan culture today and a profound expert on traditions and knowledge of Tibet. He devoted many years of his life to study different aspects of Tibetan culture, so the cultural identity of its people can be preserved. He is also among few Tibetan masters who started spreading this precious knowledge in Western countries.
